Sightseeing at Davao City ( Day 2)

Second day city tour adventure (Aug. 10, 2013): Have breakfast at Abreeza Mall, roam around at old downtown and food trip at the famous Colassa's Bar-B -Q house.

It's our secod day here in Davao, feels like we're local Davawenyo's. We want to explore more of the Davao downtown. Time constraint is upon us for the next day i will climb the tallest mountain here in the Philippines - Mt. Apo; and Jikny will go to Gen. Santos City that night to visit her relatives. So we have 1 whole day for today to explore Davao City.

First thing in our mind upon wake -up is to have breakfast. My travel buddy Jinky wants to have coffee for breakfast. As myself is not fond of drinking coffee. Where could we find their best coffee here in Davao? Hhmm, i think we will try to look at Abreeza Mall. Going to the mall is only one ride on a jeepney from our dorm ( Camillus Dormitel).

Abreeza Mall, Davao City

As we arrive at Abreeza Mall, we inquire on the concierge what coffee shops do they have. Some of the coffee shops are the usual that we can find on the mall but get's our attention is the Durian coffee flavor at Blugre' Coffee.

Though I am not fond in drinking coffee, i did try a little drink.  Durian coffee taste's good and having nice smell of Durian. So, Jinky has satify herself for having Durian coffee with our breakfast.

Breakfast done with satisfaction,we stroll little around the mall. Somehow i was impress on the design of the mall with class and elegant. It show's that Davao has a taste and indeed some rich family are living here.

After strolling around th mall we decided to go on their old downtown. We like to visit the San Pedro Cathedral at old downtown.

San Pedro Cathedral is the oldest church in Davao City. It was named after Saint Peter, the patron saint of Davao. The original structure was built in 1847. This was built in 1847 by Don Jose Uyanguren during the Spanish colonization. It is actually one of the most spectacular – if not the best – church that was built during the Spanish colonization. (San Pedro Cathedral Reference).

It lies at the heart of the City, right infront of the Davao City Hall and bordered by San Pedro St. , Bolton St. and C.M. Recto Ave.

It is nearly lunch time again, I had read some blogs that they have famous "Colassa's Bar-B-Q" restaurant  here along downtown. So we ask around where we could we find it. It's just walking distance from the Cathedral. Ths gives us some time to walk around on the downtown. The day before was a Hariraya day celebration of the Muslims, as Davao City is the land muslims the downtown area are filled with banner of their celebration.

At the back is the San Pedro Cathedral.  Thanks it's long weekend  the streets are not crowded.

Jinky tourist na tourist ang peg. At the street of downtown at Davao City.

We pass by their very humble City of Hall  and still an old structure., yet they have good governance.
There’s strict discipline being implemented in Davao City—no smoking, no littering, curfew hours, no fireworks, among many others, and the city is known for its strict compliance. No other city in the country is as disciplined. Criminals stay far from it. These no nonsense policies and exacting implementation are all forged at the city hall of Davao.

The Old City Hall (formerly the Municipal Building) was constructed in 1926, some ten years before Davao finally became a city. This was declare as one of the Historical Site (Davao City Hall declare as historical site).

We are nearing to Colassa's Bar -B-Q, at last we will taste their famous inasal. It is located very near the San Pedro Cathedral, a police station, and a park. The BBQ they serve here is very humble, yet has a very powerful and distinct taste. For more details about this famous restaurant, please check my post Summiting Mt. Apo - Postclimb city tour (Day 4).

We pass by the Museu Dabawenyo but we did not go inside the museum 'coz we have not enough time to spend to explore it.

The Museo Dabawenyo building is formerly the Court of First Instance. It was restored and rehabilitated to house and showcase the rich history and diverse cultural heritage of the people of Davao. It was established by the City Government of Davao, through the initiative of the 14th City Council under City Ordinance No. 0266-06, Series of 2006 signed into law by Mayor Rodrig R. Duterte on November 15, 2006. It was funded under the Special Education Fund of the Local School Board. The museum was first opened to the public during the 71st Araw ng Dabaw grand opening celebration on March 14, 2008.(Museu Dabawenyo)
